2013 GRANT RECIPIENTS
Junior League of Alexandria Grants 2013
The Junior League grants committee, in its 12th year, awarded over $11,000 in grants to different non-profit organizations in our focus area which address women and children’s issues. These much needed grants allow the Junior League to spread our mission through other community organizations. Our committee has awarded the following grants:
The Junior League grants committee, in its 12th year, awarded over $11,000 in grants to different non-profit organizations in our focus area which address women and children’s issues. These much needed grants allow the Junior League to spread our mission through other community organizations. Our committee has awarded the following grants:
- Alexandria Youth Orchestra: Grant money will be used to help fund a trip to New York City to perform at Carnegie Hall.
- A Perfect Fit: Grant money will be used to provide shoes for underprivileged children in the Central Louisiana area.
- Central Louisiana Arts and Healthcare: Grant money will bring bedside art activities to pediatric patients at Rapides and Cabrini hospitals.
- Christian Love Baptist Church: Grant money will assist with funding for computers, books, and snacks for the church’s afterschool program.
- City Park Players: Grant money will be used towards a youth summer program in cooperation with LSUA’s theatre program.
- Food Bank of Central Louisiana: Grant money will be used to provide backpacks filled with food for 4 children for 36 weeks.
- Girl Scouts of Louisiana: Grant money will be used for their Healthy Habits programs for kindergarten and first grade Rapides Parish girls.
- Kent Plantation House: Grant money will be used for arts and craft supplies for their annual “Jane in June” camp.
- NextSTEP: Grant money will be used to provide dating violence education programs for teens.
- Rapides Children’s Advocacy Center: Grant money will be used to purchase artwork and new chairs for the waiting room.
- Rapides Parish Library: Grant money will be used to fund two sessions of literacy training for daycare providers and Head Start instructors.
- Caroline Dormon Junior High School (Abigail Morrow): Grant money will be used to purchase math manipulatives and supplies for first and second graders at Caroline Dormon Junior High School.
- Cherokee Elementary (Tara Travis): Grant money will be used to purchase iPads, covers, surge protectors, and iTunes app cards for preschool and special needs children at Cherokee Elementary.
- Nachman Elementary (Gaye Ortis): Grant money will be used to purchase the Accelerated Reader program for the students at Nachman Elementary.
- Caroline Dormon Junior High School (Stacy Gunter): Grant money will be used to implement an “Art Infusion” program at Caroline Dormon Junior High School.
- River Oaks Arts Center: Grant money will be used to fund scholarships for the summer art studio camp.
- Servant House: Grant money will be used for the food pantry in Marksville.
- STARS Program – (Spiritual Tuesdays Aiding Rugg Students) : Grant Money will be used to purchase backpacks and school supplies for low income students from L.S. Rugg Elementary who attend the STARS Program.
- YMCA: Grant money will be used to purchase two computers and monitors for the afterschool program.
- YMCA – Girls on the Run: Grant money will be used to sponsor seven girls for the Girls on the Run program.
